Today it was leaked that six out of the seven parties (i.e. all but the Christian Democrats) in the Swedish parliaments have agreed on a gender neutral law regarding marriage. The act would be valid from May 1, 2009. The formal presentation will happen tomorrow (Tuesday).
The major changes are:
1) registered partnerships remains as is, and LGBT people that want to marry can do so - to be married, not just being bumped up married from registered partner.
2) judges lose their rights to marry
3) the Church of Sweden becomes equal with other churches/denominations in the marrying rights (previously the right to be a commissioner came with being ordained
Now our question is - remarry in Sweden?
