Yesterday I received a letter from the Supreme Court of California. My first reaction: "what the f..., I haven't done anything!", but then it turns out that I have been summoned for jury service. However, as a Swede in SF, I am not allowed to do it - one has to be a U.S. citizen. Darn! I had almost like the idea of being there!
My class mate thinks I should go down anyway: "this may be the closest you come to the heart of the American political process, you have the invitation, you may as well show up in person to tell them that you can't serve but it will take them a while to get to you (trust me) and you can observe the whole while." But she finishes with "(bring your passport)."
Somehow I am still in awe over the fact they hadn't screened things like nationality before printing and sending such materials out... I guess the 400-year history of bureaucracy Sweden has had an impact of some of the standards I am used to. :D
