In an article, the Washington Post reports the result from a US study on sexual behavior in teenagers. There have been reports the last years that there has been an increase in the number of youngsters having oral sex, and that has been interpreted as a sign that many practiced oral sex to keep the females' virginity. This in a society that on a governmental level has demanded the teaching of abstinence.
Now the Guttmacher Institute reports that is not the reason. Instead, one comes to similar conclusions that Gisela Helmius did in her dissertation 1990: the vaginal intercourse comes before petting or oral sex.
Of course, this applies to female-male couples only.
I noticed BTW that Ruth Westheimer - i.e. THE Dr Ruth is still going strong. She commented in a Letter to the Editor on an article in the NYT Magazine three weeks ago about new rites among young gay couples.
